YG Hootie and Kendrick Lamar Put On for Compton Once Again on “My City”

YG Hootie and Kendrick Lamar first linked up in 2013 on the Martin and Malcolm–inspired anthem “Two Presidents.” Now they’ve reunited four years later to lighten the mood and deliver an ode to Compton, their hometown, entitled “My City.”

On “Two Presidents” Hootie and K-Dot highlighted the different paths to peace as a remedy to unrest in the hood. On their new cut, however, the two speak from less polarizing positions, professing their love for Comp Town. “I get love in the city, I’m the one in my city, I’m the plug in my city,” Hootie states on the chorus. Kung Fu even gets ig’nant for the occasion. “Big body moving with my name on it/ Big body moving, she gon’ sing on it,” he raps.

“Compton gets a lot of bad press, which shapes the perception of our city,” says Hootie of his new single. “But most never knew George Bush and his family once resided here. They even went as far as to suppress that fact, but you got to give it up for The City.”
