jalen rose and other celebs struggle to identify twista on 'to tell the truth'

How Do These Celebrities Not Know Who Twista Is?

Twista was a featured guest To Tell the Truth last night, and somehow no one immediately knew who he was. On the TV game show hosted by Anthony Anderson, celebrity contestants use clues and their interrogation skills to determine which member of three-person panel is the real deal and who the two frauds are. Surprisingly the contestants, including former NBA player/current analyst Jalen Rose and actor Donald Faison among them, seemed to have no idea who the Chicago rap pioneer was when they were asked to determine which person was one of the world’s fastest rappers. And he was right there in front of them! It’s not like he was hidden behind the wall from The Dating Game!

TWISTA is on “To Tell The Truth” and no one knows who he is 😕

Captured by New York Times pop critic Jon Caramanica, Jalen Rose quickly launched into the questioning, and he was soon joined by Faison, who confuses everyone with a weird digression about being from Manhattan and not Brooklyn. Talk about being clueless! All the while, Twista played the part well, giving understated answers about not knowing who took his title for the fastest rap. Although all four celebrities eventually guessed that Twista was the real deal, it was largely because the two imposters gave terrible answers.

But everyone should know Twista, right? (Well, maybe not Angela from The Office.). He’s the fire-spitting MC that helped put Chicago hip hop on the map in 1990s, had a string of hits in the early 2000s and helped kickstart Kanye West career. He has the clean up verse on JAY-Z’s “Is That Your Bitch?” over a classic Timbaland beat. He broke into the mainstream with his gold-certified albums Adrenaline Rush and The Day After, and notched a platinum plaque with Kamikaze, his 2004 LP, which featured the two biggest hits of his career, “Slow Jamz” and “Overnight Celebrity,” both produced by West. Twista, of course, is also a game-changer in fast rap, once holding the Guinness World Record.

For their sake, hopefully Faison and Rose were trolling in the name of entertainment—especially Rose, who is from Detroit and who is consistently talking about hip hop in the media.
