Terry Crews Reveals He Was Sexually Assaulted by a Hollywood Executive

In a lengthy and cathartic series of tweets, Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Terry Crews admitted that he was sexually assaulted by a “high level Hollywood executive” just last year, and that he kept his story under wraps out of fear of being blackballed by the entertainment industry and publicly shamed.

“This whole thing with Harvey Weinstein is giving me PTSD. Why? Because this kind of thing happened to ME,” Crews wrote as he began a tweet thread describing the incident. “My wife and I were at a Hollywood function last year, and a high level Hollywood executive came over to me and groped my privates.”

He goes on to speculate why others have kept similar secrets, citing reasons ranging from shame and disappointment, to the fear of never working again. “Are you prepared to be ostracized?” he asked hypothetically.

Crews’ revelation comes in the wake of several articles about mogul Harvey Weinstein’s reported history of sexual abuse and sexual assault, highlighted by leaked audio of Weinstein admitting to crossing the line with a model and detailed accounts of alleged incidents by several women, including Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow.

The actor, who started his acting career at the start of the century after playing in the NFL, was sure to also mention that Weinstein is not an anomaly. “Hollywood is not the only business where this happens,” he wrote, “and to the casualties of this behavior—you are not alone.”
