PREMIERE: Teff Hinkson Ft. Kristen Walker “Golden Clouds”

Teff Hinkson’s new video for “Golden Clouds” pictures the Barbados rapper walking through the forest, in search of… something. He’s focused though, undistracted by onlookers and naysayers as he treks through the woodland. He tells MASS APPEAL that the clip serves as a metaphor for searching for purpose within while blocking out negativity.

“The song is about self-awareness and sticking to your vision despite the negativity from those who can’t see it from their little box,” Teff says of “Golden Clouds.” “When people try to project their fears or disbelief onto us, we always have to look towards higher self… The video is a somewhat abstract representation of this.”

He continues: “I’m trying to make it through this misty forest-looking area heading towards the horizon. As I walk, my thoughts start to metaphorically manifest around me, making it tough for me to make it all the way through to the horizon, which when you think about it doesn’t even really exist. Everything leads back to self. Do I make it to the horizon at the the end of the visual? Who knows?”

The video, which was directed by Teff Hinkson and Dan Jamal Weekes, has been in the can since it was shot in Barbados back in Aug. 2015. Teff—one of the island’s most popular local artists—says the time felt right to release what he calls a “timeless” record and video, as he reevaluates his music career.

“This is my farewell video to music,” says Teff, who plans to open a creative center in Barbados. “There’s no love in the music game anyway. It’s just politics and power moves. I’m going to do what makes me happiest, which is giving. I’m going to make sure that artists like myself from my island [of] Barbados have access to all the things I didn’t have on my journey so they can be better than I ever will be. It’s what I do naturally and it took me running around in circles to realize this.”
