Sam Evian “I Need A Man”
The Celestial Shore frontman makes his solo debut
Sam Evian is the new name of Sam Owens, frontman of Brooklyn indie rock band Celestial Shore. His debut solo LP Premium is due out on September 30 through Saddle Creek and this week we’ve got a taste of the album’s second single, “I Need A Man.”
The track features an enchanting Sam Evian over a soft, thoughtful instrumental made up of twinkling keys and dreamy guitar work. While the song seems like a personal callout, its inspiration came directly from North Carolina’s recent discriminatory HB2 gender-based bathroom law. The singer also revealed to Stereogum that the track holds a reference from “Histoire de Melody Nelson” by French songwriter Serge Gainsbourg. “I Need A Man” is lustful and cool, delivered stylishly through Sam Evian’s sweet falsetto.
