PREMIERE: Daryn Alexus Longs for “Home”

Sometimes the most compelling moments aren’t complex but straightforward, and that’s something Chicago-via-Washington D.C. singer Daryn Alexus counts on with her new song “Home.”

The track is a warm and inviting introduction to the powerhouse singer, whose voice intuits a blend of Tina Turner and Lauryn Hill, with a dose of disco and go-go music. Produced by Chicago-based beatmaker Dee Lilly, “Home” is an effortless song, touching on what Alexus misses most about her native D.C. She revisits her childhood through the song, recalling occasions that, while are specific to her life, are also identifiable for everyone.

“In the pursuit of happiness, we often lose sight of what it is that actually makes us happy,” Alexus says of “Home.” The raw emotion in her voice engages us from the outset, pushing us to reflect on what we miss most about our own adolescence.
