Olamide - "Konkobility" (Afropop)

Olamide “Konkobility”

We’ve got some more afropop for the international crowds, this time a track by Nigeria’s Olamide called “Konkobility.” The popular Naija vocalist goes in over some afrobeat-inspired production by Young John, singing and rapping about a girl he sees on the side of the road and falls for. Most of the lyrics are a jumble of English and his native Yoruba mixed in with local slang and other stuff, which most outside of the region will find indecipherable. But the melodies and flow he rocks with warbling Auto-Tune over harmonies and the shuffling beat are pretty universal dancefloor material. So, “keep on dancing.” It’s hard advice to ignore. If you like his style, there’s a lot more out there, since he releases new music a few times a week.
