Nicki Minaj Declares That She’s Single

New year, new Nicki? That seems to be the case, as the superstar took to Twitter this morning to give her fans an update on her relationship status. The tweet arrived without warning–it was her first status update in 3 days–and now we get to see the internet completely dismantle itself over the next few hours.

Minaj spent much of the last year reiterating the existence of her relationship with Meek Mill, which she promised was intact despite blogs and fan pages reporting otherwise. In spite of that, an interview with Ellen Degeneres in April of last year planted a break-up seed that seemed to linger throughout the year. Here’s an excerpt from that interview, which was certainly cryptic enough to foreshadow today’s news.

[Meek] and I are just two souls right now, passing through the universe. I don’t know what’s gonna happen. I just have learned over the years to not…to just let things be and come and go as they’re gonna come and go.

Technically speaking, calling your relationship with a fellow celebrity ‘two souls passing through the universe’ is merely being politically correct, but you didn’t hear Beyonce talk about Jay Z in such nonchalant terms.

Unfortunately, it appears that Omeeka is no more. We’ll always have that fabulous GQ shoot, though.
