MURDA SHE WROTE: Busy Signal, Bounty Killer, Popcaan, Mavado, Spice & D’Angel

As the month of November rolls around, many of us start looking back at how we’ve spent the year that will soon be coming to close. Did we stick to our plans, stay focused, and achieve all those ambitious goals we set for ourselves? Did we fulljoy every chance to celebrate life with real friends and family? If so, great! If not, it’s not too late to start. Skip all FOMO and coulda shoulda woulda. Remember November is a time for giving thanks, and keeping your day ones close. While you get your mind right and shift your attitude to gratitude, here are some constructive dancehall cuts to get you in the right frame of mind:

Busy Signal ft. Bounty Killer “More Reasoning”

Murda She Wrote has highlighted Busy’s series “The Reasoning” before, and just before the third episode dropped I had a chance to chat with the Turf President about the thinking behind his creative series, a totally new concept in dancehall music—although there are certain similarities to R.Kelly’s Trapped In The Closet series. “All the characters are me,” Busy confirms. “As you know, I try to think outside the box at all times. I try to do different things. I try to create and do different stuff that’s never been done. And we got people around us—we got the Turf team who’s willing and ready to take risks.”

“‘The Reasoning’ came up by me putting myself inna the real gully and the real garrison and the real trenches,” Busy explains. “Putting myself in that ghetto youth’s shoes. Then putting my other self in the person who’s gonna correct the person that’s thinking the wrong things.” In the third and latest episode, Busy brings another voice into the conversation, the Five Star General himself, Bounty Killer. The track opens with a call from the Busy’s long-time mentor the Warlord bigging Busy up for his works. “Me fi tell you, that thing deh weh yuh find wha day ’bout reasoning,” Killer says. “You know me ah listen to it, more time yesterday evening. When dancehall ah cook, you find the seasoning. Bloodclaat yute—how you bad so?”

The guest appearance is fitting since the Alliance boss has been there for the Turf Prez just as modern-day Busy is there to help the ghetto youth on the other end of the phone. “There is someone there to correct all the negatives that the other person is thinking,” Busy explains. There’s a person there correcting at all times.” In other words, as entertaining as Busy’s bars may be, there is a larger message here. If you haven’t caught Part 3 yet, what are you waiting for? And if aren’t up on ‘The Reasoning’ yet, you might as well start with Part 1
