Take A Trip to ‘The Land of Young King Dave’

Earlier this year, Young King Dave experienced the strange nirvana of becoming a viral social media star. What started off as his public call-out looking for someone to smoke with turned into one of the funniest memes of the summer. Though the video was originally posted on Dave’s own Instagram account in January, six months later it made its way to Twitter. There it got flipped and Auto-Tuned, giving the catchphrase “I got loud” a life of its own.

Now, after gaining roughly 100 thousand Instagram followers, Young King Dave is still doing exactly what he wanted to do that day: chilling and smoking.

For our original film, The Land of Young King Dave, MASS APPEAL spent a day with him in his hometown of Middletown, New Jersey. Far from your typical viral sensation, Young King Dave is an aspiring MC who was already well known in his city. “Everybody respects me, or they get beat the fuck up,” he says. “If you have a problem, you get beat the fuck up, then you can come tell me about it. But if you just want to hate, then just hate. We ain’t with all that shit.”

After a hard freestyle on a concrete tennis court, we roll with Dave and his crew to a Taliercio’s, an Italian spot he’s been frequenting since his teens, to smash some fat fucking sandwiches. All after smoking some big ol’ doinks, of course.

Check out the short film above.
