Stairwell Freestyle: Ezri

Don’t let the boyish demeanor of  Ezri fool you. Sitting crouched in a stairwell at MASS APPEAL’s New York City headquarters, he pries his new grill from his teeth and clears his throat, then the Cleveland rapper and Mass Appeal Records signee spits a stern, layered 16 bar freestyle. Demeanor intact, and charisma on high.

Ezri, who came to fame via The Land film that Nas executive produced, will release his debut, the be right back EP, with Mass Appeal on October 27. The video for the title track highlights a major dichotomy in his life: dive headfirst into the streets or follow his mother’s omnipresent guidance. In the MA stairwell, Ezri revisits that dynamic. “Road to riches, key in the ignition/ Activate the engine/ More intelligent and genuine than anybody out,” raps Ezri. Then, he turns it up a few ticks: “I spit the hottest shit, I probably got a potty mouth/ And we might pull up to the GRAMMYs with the shotty out/ Screaming everybody out/ And then we air the party out.”

“And you, nigga,” he add casually to the camera.
