Under Trump and Without FEMA’s Help, More Puerto Rican Lives Will Be Lost

Donald Trump is continuing to ignore the crisis in Puerto Rico created by Hurricane Maria nearly a month ago. Things on the island are only getting worse, and just this morning, the president (the heartless fuck that he is) sent out a few tweets threatening to end FEMA’s presence on the island altogether.

One report released over the past few days by the Environmental Protection Agency from the region offered this awful bit of information about where people in the U.S. territory are currently going for their drinking water: “There are reports of residents obtaining, or trying to obtain, drinking water from wells at hazardous waste ‘Superfund’ sites in Puerto Rico. EPA advises against tampering with sealed and locked wells or drinking from these wells, as it may be dangerous to people’s health.”

Superfund sites are toxic and the water is not meant to be consumed, but currently only 64 percent of Puerto Rico can get clean drinking water. In smaller, less populated parts of the island, that number is much lower. And the bulk of the island doesn’t have consistent electricity and distributing food is proving to be problematic.

Trump visited the island last week and showed what a callous bastard he is when he threw rolls of paper towels at Puerto Ricans who were suffering and in need to genuine help. While there, he pretended like the federal government would be doing all that it could to help the country get back on track.

But this morning, he sung a different tune. Via his normal soapbox, Twitter, he threatened to pull FEMA from the region.

Speaking of Katrina, FEMA was there for more than seven years after the levees broke and required $110 billion in emergency funds from the federal government.

Why does Trump have it out for Puerto Rico? That’s anyone’s guess, but it probably has something to do with the fact that he’s a racist and he didn’t win Puerto Rico in the 2016 election, a subject he can’t let go off and is a constant source for his personal vendettas.

Texas, a state he won, on the other hand, he loves.

Below are two tweets, both sent from Trump’s account, that perfectly sum up Trump’s nationalistic and arguably racist approach to handling the crises caused during this crushing hurricane season.
