Carnage ft. Section Boyz “BIMMA” Video

The Azores are an archipelago of islands smack-dab in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Okay, they’re closer to Europe, but that doesn’t roll off the tongue quite so nicely. That’s my best guess for where Carnage and the Section Boyz cooked up the cross-cultural banger “BIMMA,” equal parts grime and American stadium trap. DJ Carnage (himself Colombian) is no stranger to picking up underground talent, and he’s shown powerful curatorial ability with past tracks like “RARI” and “WDYW.” The Section Boyz are a bubbling grime group from London with big cosigns from all of the genre’s major players, and they exhibit why on “BIMMA,” a masterclass in roughnecked aggression. The whining electric synths aren’t out of place on more traditional grime, but also capture Carnage’s EDM leanings, while the percussion line and adlibs are picked straight from America’s stadium trap handbook. Surprisingly successful, Carnage is able to meld the two distinct styles in a way that would definitely be palatable to American listeners—one of the challenges grime’s faced in the past. Watch the clip above, showcasing the group’s effortless cool.
