Big K.R.I.T. to Drop New Album, ‘4EVA is a Mighty Long Time,’ This Month

Since departing from Def Jam Records in 2016, his label of six years, Big K.R.I.T. has pounded the independent circuit, highlighted by two projects in 2015. This month however, the Mississippi free agent will deliver his first studio album since Cadillactica in 2013, 4EVA is a Mighty Long Time, due out on October 27.

The announcement of the double album comes on the heels of two new tracks from K.R.I.T., who’d been uncharacteristically quiet for most of 2017. “Confetti,” a fiery, beat-switching exhibition of a composed and sharp Big K.R.I.T., was released last week Friday, while a new song and video, “Keep the Devil Off (Take 1),” was released overnight.

“Keep the Devil Off,” a black-and-white production directed by Alex Nazari (“Lovin,” “Back Up“), features an animated K.R.I.T. jerking about as if he were actively purging himself of demonic spirits. Watch that above.

The two-disc project contains a total of 22 tracks, with 11 tracks on each disc reflecting a particular side of the artists’ persona (“Confetti” appears on disc one—the “K.R.I.T.” side— “Keep the Devil Off” on disc two—the “Justin Scott” side).

Reviving the “4EVA” theme established in 2012 with K.R.I.T.’s 4EVA N a Day tape, fans will be blessed with the fourth installment of K.R.I.T.’s popular “My Sub” series, “Subenstein,” on disc one.

The title of the upcoming project—to be released through K.R.I.T.’s Multi Alumni Group and distributed by BMG—is significant considering the severance of K.R.I.T.’s relationship with Def Jam came after K.R.I.T. decided that he’d already outgrown the traditional major label business model. Having become a national sensation on the strength of projects like Return of 4EVA and 4EVA N a Day, it appears that Krizzle believes he needs to return to his roots in order to fulfill his true potential.
