New York City Writer ACNE Has Died

MASS APPEAL is saddened to report that the world has lost another great graffiti writer. Yesterday, news spread on social media that one of New York City’s most prolific writers, ACNE, has passed away.

From the ’90s and into the early 2000s, ACNE and his partner CECS made themselves a heavy presence in the streets of New York City. The duo went throughout all five boroughs with nasty and fat throw-ups that were unbeatable.

“Stylistically, CECS and I were influenced by the same people and pushed each other to get better across the board. I’ll even give him credit for being better and pushing me,” ACNE told MASS APPEAL in his Off Script interview.

ACNE and CECS

The writer told MASS APPEAL that he was inspired by New York greatest writers during the city’s street bombing renaissance in the 1990s, such as SKUF, VE,  and SP ONE.  ACNE told MASS APPEAL that he and CECS took over New York with a “borrowed” cars and a map of the city.

“We literally had a map and started with the worst neighborhoods. Brownsville, in Brooklyn. East New York. I’ve had guns put to my head in both of those neighborhoods,” ACNE said. “They didn’t like a couple little white boys writing graffiti in the neighborhood, and I don’t blame them. The Bronx as a whole was never safe.”

After conquering New York, ACNE spread his name into other cities like Philadelphia, Baltimore, DC, Boston, Oakland, San Francisco and Detroit. During his career, he represented some of graff’s most noteworthy crews including KMS, Deth Kult and NSF.

It is sad to see how 2017 has taken away so many great writers. One of the greatest box trucks I’ve ever seen in New York City certainly goes to ACNE and LIONS. Also Rest in Peace to two other legends we lost recently, King SCAN from up-top in Canada and New York City’s Queen DIVA.
