abra crybaby

One of the benefits to growing up on the Internet as an artist instead of the extent of your parents’ record collection is that you’re much more likely to explore various avenues of expression instead of subconsciously creating a box around yourself. Awful Records’ ABRA is a prime example. Starting with acoustic covers of Ludacris and Gucci Mane on YouTube, she’s now moved onto rapping, producing, singing, and remixing songs of her own. And now the free spirit will be releasing her third EP, PRINCESS–entirely written and produced by herself–through True Panther Sounds, a subsidiary of Matador Records.

The first single off of PRINCESS is “CRYBABY.” The production is hot and heavy like most of the power pop tracks from the ’90s. If your clothes don’t magically turn into a neon workout outfit by the end of the song, you did something wrong.

ABRA sings about a fling she had that leads to a misunderstanding, adding background vocals to truly bring the title of the track to life.

PRINCESS will be out July 15th. You can check out a teaser video clip for the EP as well as the tracklist below. You can pre-order a vinyl copy on True Panther Sounds’ website.
