Watch “Mom,” A Gorgeously Shot Video About Graffiti Artist SABIO

I first had the opportunity to interview NYC-based, graffiti-trained artist SABIO in June of last year. He had just finished mounting a new exhibit of work at a gallery on the Lower East Side. The writer who hails from Philadelphia, but has roots in Brazil, is known for his billboard painting endeavors with RAMBO and ability to create pieces like nature does snowflakes: each one is different.

SABIO, an acronym for Supreme Articulation Bouncing In Orbit, has a brand new video that offers a snapshot into his creative mind and gives some insight into what motivates this hard working artist. It’s entitled “Mom,” as a homage to his parents. “After her direct reaction from seeing their house tagged, it started for him at that moment,” says the description for the film, which was shot by filmmaker Eddie Grams and features a cameo by artist and skateboarder Adam Zhu.

“My story was written before my birth,” says SABIO, while footage shows him rolling out a wall as a NYC subway train passes by. “I’m just here now fulfilling that story.” And it’s far from being over.
