A Tribe Called Quest Drops ‘Phife Dawg’ Capsule Collection

Phife Dawg tragically passed away in March of 2016, just nine months before A Tribe Called Quest, the legendary group he helped usher into music’s history books, released its final album, We Got It From Here…Thanks 4 Your Service.

But it isn’t Phife’s death ATCQ wants to commemorate, it’s his life. On Sunday (Nov. 19), he would have turned 47, and so the group has released a capsule collection — T-shirts, hats and a limited edition Phife Dawg hoodie — in his honor.

The Queens native was known for his streetwear-driven style, which leaned heavily on sports — backward baseball caps and athletic jerseys were de rigueur.

One of the commemorative shirts reads: “Beats, Rhymes + Life,” while a neon green hoodie  features his name splashed in bold across the front.

With the help of a couple of Tribe’s musical descendants, Consequence and Wale—who were present when Tribe first previewed the collection at ComplexCon last month—you can preview a couple of the pieces below.

This isn’t the only fashion move for ATCQ. Last month, they teased a collaboration with VANS, a cream-colored version of the classic Sk8-Hi shoe called “BONITA.”

All items can be perused and purchased at Tribe’s website, and they’re courtesy of a partnership between the group and clothing brand Thread Shop.
