“Off Tha’ Wall” – Brother Ali

Switch it around, it still comes out ‘R'” – Rakim “My Melody”

After hearing hip hop legends like KRS-One, Chuck D, and the ‘God MC’ himself reference “Allah” and figures like Louis Farrakhan in their flows, Jason Newman decided to seek out the Quran and converted to Islam at the age of 15.

It would seem that a caucasian, albino, Islamic rapper named Brother Ali would have a hard time being taken seriously in the rap game, but real recognize real – and skill. Ali’s pen game has proved too powerful for player haters, and he’s managed to garner a loyal following from his honest, and often controversial lyrics.

We caught up with Brother Ali while in Minnesota and got a chance to chop it up with him. Ali was an articulate and extremely humble individual, who seemed to be in a constant state of appreciation for his success. During our interview we discussed what inspired him to start rhyming, his top three emcees, why Drake owes a lot to Lauryn Hill, and much more.

Check out the interview above and gets some words of wisdom from the brother.
