PREMIERE: Konshens – “Gyal Experience (Kiff Remix)”

Jersey’s Kiff grew up playing both Caribbean music and Jersey club, and eventually the two styles were bound to connect. He started making waves with his Jersey soca style last year and has kept building on that, expanding into a broader collection of Caribbean remixes that don’t fit neatly into categories but are bound to ramp up the floor.

The result is his new tape, Mix N Ting, which drops tomorrow on the always forward-thinking Jersey label, Thread Imprint. To get us hype for the tape, they’ve given us a dubplate of Konshens “Gyal Experience (Kiff remix),” which you can only find here until the tape gets released. It’s one of two dancehall refixes from the project, and it takes the grimy original into more whinable territories.

“The record reminded me of Tanto Metro and Devonte “Everyone Falls In Love” record… Then I took this sample from Beenie Man’s “Dick” riddim and built from there,” Kiff tells MASS APPEAL about the inspiration behind this refix. “I honestly wish I produced that record.”

Catch Kiff alongside Thread fam Tim Dolla and Tah in Jersey City on Friday night. This tune is bound to get the forward.
