Playboi Carti and Lil Uzi Vert Throw a Prison Bash in “wokeuplikethis*” Video

Playboi Carti has become one of 2017’s brightest young stars, thanks to his NYC stoop kid anthem “Magnolia.” It’s earned him a JAY-Z cosign and a top 40 hit. Now the Harlem upstart has delivered the video for his other Hot 100 track, “wokeuplikethis*”

Carti brings his casual turn up frequency and dread-shaking two-step to the ironically upbeat clip, which features the MC, guest Lil Uzi Vert and a throng of friends in a prison yard and their cells. The track, produced by Pi’erre Bourne, hasn’t had the same impact as “Magnolia,” despite its guest feature, but notching two chart hits at this stage in his career is still impressive.

Carti was supposed to release a new single, “Butterfly Coupe,” during the first week of August, but that hasn’t materialized. Still, the track may be out in the near future. On the Uzi front, fans are still impatiently awaiting the arrival of Luv is Rage 2, and anticipation continued to grow after DJ Drama and DJ Don Cannon played  five unreleased songs of his last month on their Shade45 show.

For now, enjoy the “wokeuplikethis*” video (with or without a Tidal login) above and watch the time Carti went with MASS APPEAL to get a T-shirt airbrushed below.
