Spaniard Rapper Arkano Breaks Murs’ and Chiddy Bang’s Guinness World Records
Arkano gave Murs no time for a victory lap
Earlier this month, veteran rapper Murs did the unthinkable, and set the Guinness World Record for the Longest Rap Marathon at 24 hours and 15 minutes. In April of 2011, Chiddy of hip hop duo Chiddy Bang set the Guinness World Record for Longest Rap Freestyle at 9 hours, 16 minutes, and 22 seconds. On Saturday, both their records were broken by 22-year-old Spain native Arkano.
Arkano entertained a crowd of roughly 24,000 people at iconic Madrid venue Puerto del Sol de Madrid, sitting inside a crystal box and breaking for no more than 3 consecutive seconds, per a Red Bull press release. The hashtag #RETOARKANO24H was used to socialize the event and lob freestyle subjects at Arkano, who used social media to crowd-source his rap topics. He ended up freestyling for 24 hours, 34 minutes, and 27 seconds.
He might not be a household name yet in the states, but those familiar with Arkano’s trajectory won’t be surprised by this achievement. At age 15, he won Red Bull’s Batalla de los Gallos, a national freestyle competition at which he’ll be competing at again next month. And when November’s Batalla de los Gallos kicks off in Spain, Arkano will be its reigning champion.
