There are many acts in hip-hop who never received the appropriate credit where it’s due: Black Sheep, Tha Alkaholiks, Masta Ace, and more. Of them is the group Main Source. Hopefully all of that changes with their joint announcement today with Mass Appeal, Vinyl Me Please, and sports lifestyle brand ’47. To help commemorate their legacy, they will be performing a reunion show at SOBs on February 1st along with reissuing their first album Breaking Atoms on vinyl.

Originally composed of Toronto DJs and producers, Sir Scratch and K-Cut, and Queens MC and producer Large Professor, Main Source put newer cats on like Nas and The LOX by giving them their first official appearances on wax. Although the group went through some changes with Queens MC Mikey D replacing Large Pro, their impact on hip-hop is indelible.

Breaking Atoms was released in 1991. Their holistic approach to sampling of jazz and soul records was refreshing and the lyrics melted like butter. Most will remember it for Nas’ appearance on “Live at the Barbeque,” but there are several gems to uncover for those uninitiated.

You can purchase tickets for the show here and the vinyl reissue package here. The first 50 guests to the show will receive a complimentary limited edition Main Source x ’47 CLEAN UP cap. The vinyl package includes:

-1 color-in-color vinyl with bonus 7″
-Heavyweight gatefold jacket with foreword by Pharoahe Monch
-12 page full color lyric booklet with behind-the-scenes photos
-12″ x 12″ original art print by XPAYNE
