Lil Pump and Lil Yachty Announce Joint Mixtape and Tour

Call it Watch the Throne for the Soundcloud Skittles set. Yesterday, Lil Pump and Lil Yachty announced that they will be teaming up for a joint mixtape and tour. Both the tape and the tour are set to launch at the top of the new year.

Yachty announced the news Sunday on Twitter, via a screenshot of an iMessage conversation between him and Pump. It seems to be somewhat lucky that Pump and Yachty were able to make the connection using this mode of communication as texting back doesn’t seem to be a priority for Lil’ Boat. Though no tentative or official release date accompanied the announcement, Yachty’s caption could be an allusion to a New Year’s Day target. Or, he could mean it will be each of the rappers’ first release of the new year.

Of the Soundcloud scrum—code for rappers that turned diligent Snapchat use and (Hot Rapper’s Name)-type beats into viral fame—Lil Pump and Lil Yachty have had two of the best runs out of the gate. Pump’s recent track “Gucci Gang” has become a national sensation, climbing as high as No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 last week, and poised for a top 5 finish this week. Yachty, meanwhile, has grown so famous over the last two years that he’s landed in major ad campaigns (Target and Sprite) despite his underwhelming album sales and the mere sight of jawline-length red dreadlocks on anyone immediately prompts thoughts of him. The rappers also share many of the same calling cards: droning choruses, booming 808-driven instrumentals, and a Willy Wonka adjacent aesthetic, which is to say this pairing certainly has the chance to be as seamless in practice as it is on an iPhone screen.

If this blue message prophecy holds, Yachty may have quite the winter streak under his belt by the time spring rolls around. The Atlanta native is already promising that his newest solo project, Lil Boat 2, will precede the collab mixtape.

Somebody’s going to be working on Christmas.
