Lil Peep Vigils Occurring All Around the World

Following the way-too-soon death of rising music star Lil Peep (Gustav Åhr, 21), groups of fans have been processing the loss together, in real life. It’s a painful time—Peep’s friend Lil Tracy sobbed through their song “Awful Things” recently in concert—but fans have the right idea about leaving the house and creating community. That’s one way to heal.

Gathering across America and internationally, Peep diehards have been singing his lyrics outdoors amidst pink candles, pink balloons, and original artwork inscribed with lyrics (“Gothboiclique til my soul take” is a popular line, from “Witchblades”.) Vigils have been reported in Moscow, Manchester, and Paris—and all over Canada and the U.S. All the activity goes to show how much of an impact Lil Peep made, even though he was barely 21 when he died. Some critics say the Cobain comparisons are a stretch, but the recent outpouring does stir up memories of the time when Nirvana frontman passed away.

We’ve gathererd images and video from a few of those gatherings below. Many more events are planned, including on November 24 in Louisville, KY; November 25 in Brighton, England; and on December 2 in Hamburg, Germany. The best way to learn about gatherings is to follow Gothboiclique founders @coldh4rt, @wiccaphase, and @horsehead on Twitter, or by searching #gothboiclique.

Congregating in a sad time isn’t for everyone, but as long as you’re safe, however you want to celebrate Peep is the right way. If you do attend a vigil, Wicca Phase has advised that candles are safer than balloons, which if let loose are terrible for the environment.
