Kamaiyah “For My Dawg” Video

Kamaiyah is the hottest thing out of the Bay since Sage the Gemini, IAMSU!, Kehlani and the rest of the HBK Gang asserted their dominance. With her own BMG clique, the young songstress put out A Good Night in the Ghetto back in March, which featured YG, and has already risen to one of the best projects of this year. With a new visual for track “For My Dawg,” Kamaiyah continues to illustrate her vision of Oakland for the listener, this time mourning a dead homie afflicted by cancer. The emotional counterpoint to Young Thug’s blasé “F Cancer,” Kamaiyah digs deep with footage of her dead friend and direct memories of their times together. Along with that, Kamaiyah throws in some genuinely heartbreaking sentiment that shows a real songwriting talent: “And I could give a fuck about these millions/and I would give it up to see him livin’/to raise his daughter up cuz she so brilliant.” Watch the video above, and be sure to check out her other material if you’re feeling it. Get on the wave early.
